gener : Adult fantasy

synopsis :

in a land where three suns almost never set,

a fledgling killer joins a school of assassins, seeking vengeance against the powers that destroyed her family.

daughter of an executed traitor, mia corvere is barely able to escape her father’s failed rebellion with her life.

alone and friendless, she hides in a city built from the bones of a dead god, hunted be the senate and her father’s former comrades. but her gift for speaking with the shadows leads her to the door of a retired killer and a future she never imagined.

now mia is apprenticed to the deadliest flock of assassins in the entire republic-the red church.

if she bests her fellow students in contests of steel, poison, and the subtle art, she’ll be inducted among the blades of the lady of blessed murder and one step closer to the vengeance she desires.

but a killer is loose within the church’s hall.

the bloody secrets of mia’s past returns to haunt her, and a plot to bring down the entire congregation is unfolding in the shadows she so loves.

will she even survive the initiation, let alone have her revenge ?

non-spoilers review:

like i said earlier you’re either going to love it or hate it for me i loved it i really did enjoy it

the story is told in a third person POV which makes it fun to read the comments of the person’s pov.

i loved the world building it was fantastic well built and written gruesome and relatively real it reminded me so much of ancient Rome and a little of game of thrones .

i loved the sense of humor in this book this is the first time for me reading a book by jay Kristof and it got excited to read illuminae (he is the co author and yes i haven’t read illuminae yet)

the characters felt real , mia who is the lead female character was strong and determent and believable the way she was attached to her past emotionally after everything she been through felt real and moving.

you get friendship and caring and love but not in the fairy-tales kinda of way.

the only thing that i didn’t enjoy very much was the footing , sometimes it was really fun to read the footing because they were comments of the narrator but when it is about the history of the republic it get really long and boring .

lastly this book is very adult-y so it has some mature language and lots and lots of swearing and f***ks .

spoilery review :

okay can we first talk about mister kindly he is the best friend not-so-cat a person can ever have  *makes strange noises*

and the school and the assassins teachers they know the real thing when mia got her arm ripped in song class that was one of my fav!! you can tell theses assassins ain’t got time for  messin with ya’ll .

tric and mia i shipped these tow hard !! what happened to tric broke my heart BUT it got me excited to see in future books if mia will ever find someone like him or better besides jay doesn’t like happen endings 🙂

what happened in the end was so good i was screaming and rooting for mia and the same time  ash deserved what she got and what will come to her, i was sad about cassius tho i kinda of liked him  .

it was nice to see mia have a female friend “naev” after what happened to her now naev isn’t the kind of people who you cry on her shoulder but she you’ll sacrifice herself for her friend.
