” IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE OF COURSE BUT WHEN DID THAT EVER STOP ANY DREAMER FROM DREAMING ”
so you might know that daughter of smoke and bone wasn’t my favorite i appreciated the writing most but that was it.
anyway i had this book on my 5 stars prediction TBR for a reason, lain is a wonderful writer and storyteller and this book proved it even further. i enjoyed this book so much! even thought it wasn’t 5 stars i wouldn’t say i was disappointed with it at all. i honestly don’t know how i’ll even write a coherent review!
name: strange the dreamer ( strange the dreamer-1)
genre: YA fantasy
author: laini taylor
pages: 536
publishing date: march 28th 2017
publisher: little brown books
SYNOPSIS :
The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around—and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old he’s been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself, in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance or lose his dream forever.
What happened in Weep two hundred years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exactly did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of god? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving?
The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries—including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo’s dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? And if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real?
Welcome to Weep
NON-SPOILERS REVIEW:
where do i start?!
let’s start with why it wasn’t 5 stars read for me. because of the time that i didn’t think about it much when i stoped reading it AND of the time that there wasn’t much action going on. you see for me thinking about a book even when i’m not reading it is a big deal. but i’m not mad or disappointed because everything else was good and the ending got me really thinking about the book!
the writing:
like i said previously laini’s writing is beautiful and magical and lyrical and descriptive and just amazing! the world building was very atmospheric and magical you just want to day dream about this world all day! weep was very mythical and enticing i wanted to know more about it history and everything about it from the very first chapter!
the magic was interesting as well. the world has so much potential for growth.
the characters:
i love morally grey characters when characters do bad things but you feel for them. this cast of characters had depth and some you can see their character growing at the end of the book, the evil characters in this book weren’t really evil they just have a complicated history which make their actions cautious and very forgiving.
the plot:
the book can be slow at times but since the writing was great and kept describing the beauty of the world i wasn’t really bored. i kept anticipating what will happen next all the time. yes there were somethings that were predictable but not at all cheesy or boring.
SPOILERS REVIEW:
one of the thing i loved about this book is lazlo’s dream escape specially specially with sarai in it. ughhh i want to be in his dreams so bad!!
their love was kinda insta love but well i wasn’t at all bothered with it! they’re just so perfect together.
there were somethings that were the same in her other trilogy, the forbidden love, the demon-but not really evil- vs the angel-but not really good- thing but i wasn’t bothered with it that much perhaps it’s because of the world building! i don’t know but even though there were similar they were different!
sarai’s death i can’t-will not- get over it. how can someone do this to their readers! and to lazlo! i didn’t expect it at all to be honest, like what?! this is only the first book! when eril-fane and lazlo came to see her body ughhh why why!!
lazlo’s true heritage left so many questions i want answers to. i must say that i don’t know what to make of this revelation, it’s really interesting to see lazlo getting this power and all i just don’t want it to be like what happened in daughter of smoke and bone i didn’t appreciate that revelation either.
i keep comparing this book with daughter of smoke and bone which i shouldn’t but i can’t help it! i wan’t to love this series more!
