HII
I’ve read 7 books in july!! I know it isn’t much, but considering I was in a miserable reading slump for the past months, this is so exciting!
I feel like I’ve read these books ages ago!
1- CRUEL BEAUTY
name: cruel beauty universe-1
author: Rosamund Hodge
genre: YA fantasy, retelling
pages: 352
publishing date: 28 january 2014
this was a re-read for me. I wanted a fantasy that is light, with a bit of romance. I remember reading it ages ago and enjoying it. as much as I enjoyed it the second time around I rated it less than I did the first time. the world building is good. I enjoyed the two main characters and their relationship. but the other characters did get on my nerves and the plot was okay…
2- THE LAST OLYMPIAN
name: percy jackson and the olympians-5
author; Rick Riordan
genre: middle grade urban fantasy
pages: 381
publishing date: 5 may 2009
this was a good concluding novel. but I felt like things did drag on a bit. I liked how everything ended, and how there were hints about the following series.
3- THE CROWN OF EMBERS
name: fire and thorns-2
author: Rae Carson
genre: YA fantasy
pages: 410
publishing date: 18 september 2012
I enjoyed this book more than the first one. the plot, the characters got more interesting. I didn’t care much about the protagonist in the first book, but that changes as I continued reading the trilogy. the romance was nice as well.
4- THE BITTER KINGDOM
name: fire and thorns-3
author: Rae Carson
genre: YA fantasy
pages: 433
publishing date: 27 august 2013
like I said this trilogy just kept getting better. the conclusion novel was really good. it wrapped up things nicely and thoroughly.
5- POISON STUDY
name: study-1
author: Marie V.snyder
genre: YA fantasy
pages: 409
publishing date: october 2005
I’ve been wanting to read this book since I first started reading YA. it’s one of the oldest YA books that everyone seems to love. and of course I wanted to jump into the band wagon as well!! let me tell you that this book was definitely worth the hype! it had some YA tropes that were properly done, the characters were great, and the world building was good as well as the plot. it wasn’t fast paced, but it wasn’t boring as well!
6- MAGIC STUDY
name: study-2
author: Marie V.snyder
genre: YA fantasy
pages: 392
publishing date: 19 september 2006
in the sequel, the world building expands, new characters are introduced. however I liked it a little less than the first book. because the beginning was a bit slow, and some of my favorite characters were featured less in this book.
7- MORNING STAR
name: red rising-3
author: Pierce Brown
genre: sci-fi
pages: 524
publishing date: 9 february 2016
save the best for last! I knew from the start that this trilogy will be one of my all time favorites. and as I read the rest of the books I wasn’t disappointed! yes, this trilogy is one of my all time favorites! ahhh, this was THE perfect conclusion! as always, it was filled with nonstop action, and twists. everything about this trilogy was amazing!
Reading slumps suck! Congrats to getting out of it and having a good reading month 🙂
