here I am back again with another review! I finished reading hunting prince dracula the other day. a YA historical fiction. I read the first book a while ago, it was a good book but the sequel surpassed it in my opinion!
name: stalking Jack the ripper-2
Author: Kerri Maniscalco
genre: YA mystery, historical fiction
pages: 434
publishing date: september 17th 2017
publisher: little brown and co.
synopsis :
In this New York Times bestselling sequel to Kerri Maniscalco’s haunting #1 debut Stalking Jack the Ripper, bizarre murders are discovered in the castle of Prince Vlad the Impaler, otherwise known as Dracula. Could it be a copycat killer…or has the depraved prince been brought back to life?
Following the grief and horror of her discovery of Jack the Ripper’s true identity, Audrey Rose Wadsworth has no choice but to flee London and its memories. Together with the arrogant yet charming Thomas Cresswell, she journeys to the dark heart of Romania, home to one of Europe’s best schools of forensic medicine…and to another notorious killer, Vlad the Impaler, whose thirst for blood became legend.
But her life’s dream is soon tainted by blood-soaked discoveries in the halls of the school’s forbidding castle, and Audrey Rose is compelled to investigate the strangely familiar murders. What she finds brings all her terrifying fears to life once again
like I said earlier I enjoyed this book much more than the first book. in the sequel we follow the protagonist to Romania to study Forensic in Vlad the impaler’s castle. a series of murders happen and our heroine and her companion try to unfold the mysterious regarding the murders.
the setting of the gothic castle of Vlad and atmosphere of the village was thrilling and intriguing!! the aspects of vampire and hunted castle always excites me! and the author didn’t fail to make the plot more interesting by mixing forensic and folklore.
the new setting in the castle and the new characters were the best thing in this book for me. the added history added some depth to the story along with the characters.
I enjoyed the main characters more in this book as well. after everything that happened in the first installment, and seeing the protagonist deals with the aftermath of all that happened, made me more sympathetic toward her. her character had more depth, and different aspects of her character was revealed which made the book more enjoyable.
the plot like I said was quite intriguing, however one thing I didn’t like was the explanation for the murders. I didn’t like the reason why killer did what they did. it was a weak conclusion, and didn’t live to the goodness of the book.
another thing I didn’t like was how the author kept describing the male lead as the most perfect and wholesome of all! I know that I’m reading the story through Adurey’s POV, and well she’s in love with him and all, but the way she describe him sometimes made me roll my eyes, and appreciate the author’s writing style less ( though only when it comes to describing Thomas )(and I have nothing with the guy, he’s pretty cool).
