HIII
I finished reading yet another hyped book, and one of my most anticipated releases. it was a good one, and I enjoyed it. it was fun and light.
I want to read more books with sirens, and mermaids in them! the discretion in this book was really good!
name: to kill a kingdom
author: Alexandra christo
genre: YA fantasy
pages: 352
publishing date: 6th march 2018
publisher: Feiwel friends
synopsis:
Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. With the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea. Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most—a human. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian’s heart to the Sea Queen or remain a human forever.
The ocean is the only place Prince Elian calls home, even though he is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world. Hunting sirens is more than an unsavory hobby—it’s his calling. When he rescues a drowning woman in the ocean, she’s more than what she appears. She promises to help him find the key to destroying all of sirenkind for good—But can he trust her? And just how many deals will Elian have to barter to eliminate mankind’s greatest enemy?
like I said this book is really hyped about, and I’m sure you’ve heard\read about it by now. with that being said, my expectations were over the moon..kinda of. it was what I expected it to be, light fast paced, and enjoyable. it didn’t exceed my expectations unfortunately. it’s that book you wanted to love! but just enjoyed.
this review might be hard for me to write. I can’t quite place my thoughts on this book other than that I enjoyed it but didn’t ENJOY IT! hopefully that will make sense…
as much as I enjoyed this book with it’s magical world building, and beautiful writing, there’s something that didn’t make me REALLY love it and I don’t know what it is.
the world building was absolutely great so is the plot and the main characters. it’s that kind of book that I think would be even better as a trilogy. there was so much I wanted to know about the kingdoms, and I wanted more of the characters.
the writing was really good. it made me want to read more books with mermaids and sirens and pirates! it painted a vivid picture of what’s it like to be in that world.
the pace was good. you can finish this book in one setting, the chapters were short and I wanted to know what happens next!
the story is told through Lira and Eilan’s POV. these characters are one of the things I liked most about this book. they had depth and were really enjoyable specially when they were together.
this is one of those books that I might read in the future if I wanted a break from hardcore fantasy.
Well, I’m glad you enjoyed the individual aspects of this book! But I totally get you–sometimes there are books that are objectively amazing, but you personally just didn’t click with them enough. D:

I like this book a lot. It’s not my favorite book ever, but I agree that it was a fun, light-hearted read. What ruined it for me was all the sarcasm and teasing between Lira and Elian. It was like every other sentence exchanged between them was a stab at the other person. It got on my nerves.

Exactly!! Hahahaha I liked the sarcasm between them, but you’re right it can be unwelcome sometimes!

I totally understand what you mean when you said, “I enjoyed it but didn’t ENJOY IT!” I felt the same way. It was good, it was entertaining, but it wasn’t amazing. It made me want to read more books about pirates. Why are there not a lot of those? Cause pirates are awesome!

Oh thank God! I know I may be short on describing books, so I’m glad that was understandable! 😂 that is exactly what I feel about it!

Lovely review! I personally loved this one, but can totally understand when you just enjoy a book instead of loving it. That’s a risk I always take when I read hyped books! Haha
