THE WICKED KING. The one that left me Feeling ughhh!

Hii

I feel like I’m the last person on earth to read the sequel of TCP! And the last one to review it!. Have you read TWK yet?

This book was one of my most anticipated releases. When I finally got it in my hands I teared up a bit ( it was a beautiful moment). The plot twists of the first book were amazing. So, my expectations were high when it came to this book. And let me tell you the ending did not disappoint!!

Name: the folk of the air-2

Author: Holly Black

Genre: YA fantasy

Pages: 336

Publication date: 8 January 2019

Publisher: little brown books

Synopsis:

You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without tiring.

The first lesson is to make yourself strong.

After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her younger brother safe. To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.

When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.

The writing and the world building were ever beautiful. There was even more places we get to discover in the sequel. The setting of the underwater kingdom was magical and just ughh I wanted more!!

I loved the character development and the sides we get to know more about of some of my favorite characters ( especially Cardan!!) Jude’s character development was probably one of the best things I loved of this book. All the characters are flawed. No one is really good or bad. But Jude is my favorite when it comes to complex, morally grey characters in this world. Her inner conflicts, how she keeps make mistakes and learning, how she just keeps fighting is just amazing!

And boy the romance! ( can it even be called so?!) I won’t spoil anything. But ughhhhh I want more of these two!!

Some side characters that we didn’t get to know at all in the first book had more presence in the sequel which was one of the things I liked as well. But some of the side characters that were there from the start had a somewhat of a weak presence ( not toward the end though!)

Lastly, the ending! Oh man the ending! I was expecting a mind blowing plot twist towards the end. And let me tell you The wicked king did not disappoint!

Have you read it? What are your thoughts?
