non-spoilers review:
I seriously don’t know where to start, this doulogy is so far the best work of leigh bardugo
she bested herself in every possible way .
the doulogy starts with six of crows where a group of criminals try to pull of this impossible heist in the same grisha world as the shadow and bone trilogy
as always leigh’s writing is incredible and rich and mysterious
the world is gruesome full of heartaches and hope and love and a problems that aren’t far away from the real world
she created some of the best set of characters in the YA genre they are so different from one another and they fit perfectly together .
the story is told in 6 different POVs .
the story is so full of action and unexpected events when you think you predicted something it turns out to be very different .
and the sequel is even better it takes a really good author to write an even more interesting sequel .
the sequel continues after the heist it will keep you at the edge of your seat there will be new characters and a whole new level of awesomeness, when you think you know what will happen next you will be very surprise to know how wrong you are.
Kaz Brekker : is one of the most smartest people in ya with logical mind and far from emotions he had is reputation as the worst , he is GENIUSE ruthless who never show any feelings and with heartbreaking past .
Inej : religious , full of faith and hope despite everything that happened her heart is full of love for her friends she doesn’t deny what happened but she tries to embrace it to pull her forward
nina : funny , caring , despite her wrongdoings she doesn’t apologize for them for her it’s for a reason and she thrives to help those who she abandoned
Matthias : faithful , brave Fjerdan who his only fault was to believe that not everything is monstrous as he was tought
Waylen : the runaway who was bullied and hated for one flaw but could turn cities to ashes if wanted to
Jesper : funny , easygoing , with an aim that never miss , he could never stop making stupid choices and would laugh and be happy in a shooting fight
ratings:
six of crows : 5\5 stars
crooked kingdom : 5\5 satrs and a favourite of all time
this start of this book is soo good and funny somehow
when kaz is scheming and nobody know what is happening !!
normally i would really hate that but not with this book folks like Kaz knows whats up .
when nina and matthias first met in the cell *all kinds of feels* honestly matthias and nina are so adorable together and when they all start making fun of matthias and his beliefs it’s cruel i know but i couldn’t to laugh
speaking of matthias and the cell … hellgate is a really nice addition to the story the scene where they enter the arena wearing masks and watching matthias fight is one of my favourite in this book .
the breaking of the ice court is one of my favourite break in and outs of all time everything is so unexpected and exciting and just beautiful what happened with jarl brum and pekka rollins is soo exciting
and of course don’t forget about jan van eck that lowly thief
their back stories are everything but my fav was Kaz’s it’s the only one where i keep thinking about over … having his brother’s body to keep from drowning *sobbing *
my favourite quotes:
“Kaz’s laugh was low and humorless. “who’d deny a poor cripple his cane?” . ” if the cripple is you, then any man with sense.””
“no mourners,” jesper said as he tossed his riffle to rotty “no funerals,”the rest of the dregs murmured in reply. among them, it passed for “good luck”
“that’s what he wants, not what he needs,” said kaz. “leverage is all about knowing the difference.”
“kaz leaned back. “what’s the easiest way to steal a man’s wallet?” “knife to the throat?” asked inej. “gun to the back?” said jesper. “poison in his cup?” suggested nina. “you’re all horrible,” said matthias.”
“the water hears and understands. the ice does not forgive.”
“suli were travelers. for them, “home” really just meant family.”
“her voice had brought him back from the dark; it had been the tether he gripped and used to drag himself back to some semblance of sanity.”
“the heart is an arrow it demands aim to land true.”
crooked kingdom review:
now to my favourite sequel after acomaf of course , a lot of series tend not to be good or better than the fist book usually but crooked kingdom is one of the exceptions .
this book with each chapter you think something is going to happen than BOOM in your face something completely different from what you thought happens, that is basically what i feel about this book .
I loved that we can get some of back stories of the characters that we had in the first book being explained here further especially wayln’s story , some of the books tend to explain everything in the first book than never look back and it’s something that can affect the story poorly in some way BUT NOT IN THIS BOOK
kaz is a genius okay
believe me i can go on and on and never stop but i’m trying to keep it “short” in here..
let’s talk about one of the most heartbreaking things in this book …..
matthias death *I’m trying to keep it together while writing this* i was spoiled about his death i know the worst thing that can to a reader is spoilers and it’s something completely cruel and beyond bad to be spoiled about a character’s death that you are in deep love with, BUT i tried not to let get to me and i failed and even though i knew before about his death it still broke my heart to tiny little pieces
I can never get over it his death twists my heart every time I remember it………..
can we talk about those sons of b***s pekka rollins and jan van eck the perfect greedy shameless fools for this story, i can’t even start with pekka what he did to kaz and what he does to those prisoners in hellgate i mean what is your problem dude!!
and van eck what he did to his ex-wife and wylan .. he discovers what he got and more
oohh and i really loved seeing some of the characters from the grisha trilogy zoya and nikolai and genya are everything…
and finally the ending; i think the conclusion is perfection even though i wanted more and i still want more but when you look to the story and the characters you can’t expect every thing to be alright *even though i wish my babies would live happily ever after* what happened between inej and kaz at the docks with the hands touching is just soooo pretty and gave hope and a lot of feels .
the rest of the characters ending was beautiful and most importantly inej and her parents reunion *crying cuz this book ended* okay that was long …
my favourite quotes :
“when you can’t beat the odds change the game”
” when fear arrives something is about to happen”
“”i’ve been nothing but kind to you. i’m not some sort of monster.” “no ,you’re the man who sets idly by , congratulating yourself on your decency, while the monster eats his fill. at least a monster has a teeth and a spine.””
“we can endure all kinds of pain. it’s shame that eats men whole.”
” this action will have no echo. it means we won’t repeat the same mistakes, that we won’t continue to do harm.”
